Misleading Dirty Coal Commercials via Ameren UE

Recent commercial by AmerenUE where they say they are out for the publics best interest is total bull ___. Ameren UE is poisoning the people with pollution and stopping Clean Energy Production Rebates-Coal Pollution Causes Cancer... 4th Dirtiest coal producing plant in the USA is spilling toxic pollution ...

I don't watch as much broadcast tv since the family "Cut the Cable Line" we've been using Chrome Cast and our computers to watch TV via the Internet (chrome cast transmits the signal to the tv from the computer and I watch everything for FREE.).

Pollution from Dirty Coal=Cancer

Luckily many of the shows we watch don't have commercials!  But every now and then a commercial sneaks in and a recent one by AmerenUE where they say they are out for the publics best interest is total bull ___.

  1. The simple facts are: They Have the 4th Dirtiest coal producing plant in the USA that is spilling toxic pollution all around the immediate area and then into the stratosphere where it mixes with other pollution and is creating global warming and is affecting the people and the food we eat to survive. see Ameren's Labadie plant named a top greenhouse-gas emitter by EPA
  2. Simple Solution to eliminate Dirty Coal Smoke containing pollution is to create Clean Energy from non polluting fossil fuels.  But since this in direct conflict of Ameren UE's profits they would rather keep poisoning the people with pollution rather than allow additional clean energy to be produced.

I've know for awhile that Ameren UE is challenging Net Metering Payments. I learn via: Renew Missouri Article in the Post Dispatch -that they want to eliminate the Solar Rebate as it is costing the company money in profits of 36 million.

Typical Big Business and dirty tricks (dirty coal pollution has risen by 3-5%).  This little 36 million worth of pollution free energy has a hell of a lot more value and benefits than their dirty coal fired electricity.

Coal Pollution has been linked to CANCER (1).  I can think of 36 lives are worth more to me than company profits.  While they preach energy conservation and generating clean energy...don't let them fool you.  They are protecting their interests and want to burn dirty coal and poison the world.

Yes Old Dog New Tricks-DirtyEnergyDuke and Solar

Another Dirty Coal Company jumping on Clean Energy from Solar Bandwagon 'proof' that Solar Energy has been adopted as the preferred energy source of the Future.

2 Universities in DC Make Deal to Buy Solar Power (abcnewshidden in the text of the document: 'Duke Energy Renewables'

"Whats this I asked?"

I know Duke Energy is known for #DirtyCoal...

a quick google search on Dirty Duke Energy led me to a page that downplays the Dirty Coal aspects of Dirty Duke Energy Company and preaches clean energy aspects.  They even downright admit clean energy is best for all.

Coal Company jumping on Clean Energy from Solar Bandwagon

'proof' that Solar Energy has been adopted as the

preferred energy source of the Future. Scotty

What I found most interesting is: "This Dirty Coal company has jumped on the #Solar bandwagon-which means that even dirtydukeenergy has realized the importance of clean energy production from non-polluting sources." Further proof that #SolarEnergy has been adopted as the preferred energy source of the Future.
Even here in #StLouis the local #DirtyCoal company #Ameren is building a big solar energy plant. Once again proof that #cleanenergy from solar is both profitable for the owner and is the Future!
  • Do you realize that the same #BigBusiness #dirtycoal  companies that are fighting and supporting negative ad campaigns with #dirtyenergymoney against #CleanEnergy  are then investing $$$ #Money   ' IN ' #solarenergy  .  This should show you what is going on behind closed doors (in the Energy Industry) in regard to the future of energy and where it will come from.
  • Solar is the Future.  Dirty Energy realizes it and soon you will too.

COP21 StLouis Climate March at the Arch

Here are my 10 biggest takeaways from the #OursToLose Climate March at the Arch in StLouis. In which I was proud participant in last Sunday at the Arch.

The gathering of like minded individuals was an eye opening experience for me to say the least.
#OursToLose Climate March at the Arch in StLouis gathering at the StLouis City Hall
#OursToLose Climate March at the Arch in StLouis

I learned in the brief correspondence while talking to the other participants that:

  1. There were as many older generations ages- 50 plus, as younger generations of less than 30 years old- that care about the health of our Planet and Pollution that is causing world wide climate change from the business as usual approach of the Big Business Polluting Machines
  2. The participants were interested and knowledgeable to the importance of Energy Conservation as well as generating True Clean Energy

  3. Climate March #OursToLose StLouis Participants are not happy with the local activities of the Dirty Coal Machine Ameren UE.

  4. Some of the local Solar Installation Companies in StLouis are not adequately trained in the proper ways of installing Solar Racking on challenging roofs
Arch Ground Image participants at the Climate March supporting #COP21
  5. Pointing our finger at other countries such as China who is a big polluter, does not help at the Local Level.  I firmly believe that society as a whole needs to: Chop Wood and Carry Water- mankind must not point to another country without taking care of business at home
Don't be Fooled by the Dirty Coal Plant Misleading Dirty Coal Image Labadie Power Plant
  6. It was great to see a #BlackLivesMatter supporter at the march!  Climate Change affects everyone regardless of Race, Creed, or Community Status- we are all in this together

  7. People that live around the Labadie Dirty Coal Plant are worried about their Personal and Families Health from the Pollution via the noted 4th Dirtiest Coal Plant in the Entire USA.
Labadie Dirty Coal Plant 4th Dirtiest Coal Plant in the Entire USA
  8. The boundary line between my activities and what I'm doing needs to be broken in relation to networking with other clean energy and energy conservation promoters and businesses in the St Louis region.  We are all in this together and their is plenty of work and buildings in the StLouis region for everyone.  I personally need to extend the Olive Branch to others in the region to lend my support for their activities as well as letting them know of what I am working on.  I believe in action over inaction and start by listing the information from 2 of the companies working in the area right here that were also proud participants at the #COP21 #OursToLose StLouis Climate March.  Please check out their websites and to give them a call: Aaron Michel Energy Resources Group, inc and Brian Ettling Climate Change Communicator
Just like a giant fishbowl with rising tides climate change affects everyone
  9. You will meet some of the nicest people at Social Gatherings and as it was pointed out you can even find love and meet the person of your dreams!
Love was in the Air COP21 Climate March at the Arch StLouis MO
  10. I believe to put up or shut up.  And to prove this I will be offering rock bottom prices on any energy conservation activities I will be doing for my StLouis neighbors.  I am going to cut the prices of any and all activities for the remainder of the 2015.  I'm sure this will make the bookkeeper cringe but I will offer a 50% labor discount on any and all green building projects that I bid on for the remainder of the year.

We can build a green St Louis- Join Me in making the world and our region a better place for all.

Solar vs Coal-Clean Energy is better x5

So, who’s going to stand up for solar? Here are five reasons why solar power beats the pants of coal:

(1) Solar is clean. Once up and running, a solar energy system is a zero-emissions source of power. No carbon-dioxide. No sulfur dioxide. No arsenic. No air-borne particulates… Essentially none of the environmental and health hazards associated with coal-fired power plants.

(2) Coal is old energy. Think about it: when you combust coal, you’re essentially burning dead plant material that was buried millions of years ago. Plus, coal has been mined for use as a fuel as far back as 10,000 years ago in China. Talk about yesterday’s energy…
A solar PV panel, by contrast, generates electricity using new energy from the sun. Literally: it takes about 11 minutes from when the sunlight leaves the sun, hits your solar panels and gets converted into juice to power your flatscreen TV.

(3) Coal is a finite resource. I’m not going to lie: we here in the U.S. are blessed (maybe cursed?) with vast coal reserves; we’ve got a hundred years or more worth of the stuff. But if I were going to put my money on which will happen first — we run out of coal or the sun burns out — I’d be all in on the former.

(4) Cost-wise, solar is closing in on coal. New analysis from Bloomberg New Energy Finance suggests that, as the cost of generating electricity from the sun continues to fall, solar power may soon rival coal-fired plants.

(5) Solar panels generate electricity at a fixed price. Since the “fuel” that powers solar panels comes from the sun, you don’t have to pay for it. As a result, the price of the resulting electricity won’t fluctuate over time. (Indeed, this is one of the great benefits of owning a solar energy system: as the price of conventional electricity increases over time, the impact of these hikes on your monthly energy costs is minimized.)

In contrast, operators of coal-fueled plants have to take into consideration price fluctuations of their main input, coal.

True Figures Dirty Coals Costs in Environmental and Public Health

Study Shows the True Costs of Dirty Coal at $250 Billion Dollars - Hidden Cost Add Millions More-

Fully accounting for coal's costs in environmental and public health damage would triple the cost of coal-generated electricity and make less-polluting fuels more competitive, according to a new study by Harvard University researchers.

The study, by the Harvard Medical School's Center for Health and the Global Environment, is scheduled to be published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Researchers tried to take a broader look at the full cost of coal, following its life cycle from mining and processing, to transportation and burning. They estimated that coal is costing the U.S. between $174 billion and $523 billion a year.

"Coal carries a heavy burden," the researchers said in a summary of their detailed publication.

"Energy is essential to our daily lives, and for the past century and a half we have depended on fossil fuels to produce it," they said. "But, from extraction to combustion, coal, oil and natural gas have:
  • multiple health,
  • environmental and
  • economic impacts
that are proving costly for society."
The researchers put their "best" estimates of costs from coal's annual air pollution at $188 billion and costs from its contributions to global warming at $62 billion ($250 Billion Dollars Combined).

Researchers also examined deaths from coal-mining accidents and $74 billion a year in early deaths that other studies by West Virginia University have said appear to be linked to pollution from coal-mining sites. They also looked at economic subsidies for coal, deaths from coal-hauling railroad accidents, and a host of other impacts.

The study was funded in part by the Rockefeller Family Foundation, and was being promoted by a news release issued by the group Greenpeace.

"The public is unfairly paying for the impacts of coal use," said Dr. Paul Epstein, associated director of the Harvard center.

"Accounting for these 'hidden costs' doubles to triples the price of electricity from coal per kWh, making wind, solar, and other renewable very economically competitive," Epstein said. "Policy-makers need to evaluate current energy options with these types of impacts in mind. Our reliance on fossil fuels is proving costly for society, negatively impacting our wallets and our quality of life."

Humanitys Greatest Challenge

Will 2013 Blog Action Day be a success?  Of course it will be this years subject is Humanitarian in Nature and is a perfect fit for addressing Humanity's Greatest Challenge yet undertaken by Mankind.
The continued threat of Global Warming on the Worlds Food Supply caused by extreme weather.
I recently wrote about the changing weather patterns that I link to global warming and my experiences growing up on a Ranch in North Missouri.  I mentioned simple facts that cannot be denied: We do not have prolonged periods of cold weather that keeps the snow that falls from melting 'normally', we have more ice and less snow, and we are feeling the effects of climate change.
And now it is effecting our Nation's Food Supply.  Just recently 4 feet of snow fell in the western plains[1].  The Snow was so deep and came so early that tens of thousands of cattle were killed- a tragedy for the Ranchers and their herds.

This is not only a loss of income for the Ranchers and the businesses in the area; it is going to affect the prices of the Nations Food Stock.
While it may be normal for 4 feet of snow fall in the Western Plains.  It is not normal for 4 feet of snow fall this early in the year.  The snowfall came so early and was unexpected for both the Ranchers and Cattle they were ill equipped and still ill equipped since our Government has shut down[2]- removing all the aid that is deserving for the bestricken Ranchers.
The normal pattern of how animals grow their winter coats that usually grow middle to late fall, had not yet fully developed.  So the cattle were out there with jean jackets on instead of down filled winter coats.  Just like a human would freeze to death so did the cattle and wildlife.

Did you notice the Natural Weather pattern was altered-
Winter came earlier and more severe.
This is not the normal weather pattern.
To help my readers understand how extreme weather affects the daily shopping routine at the local Schnucks and Dierbergs hometown grocery stores let me share a little background on Beef production.
  • A loss of 1 steer will produce an average of 800 pounds of beef.  10,000 steers produce 8,000,000[3] lbs of meat that American Families need to eat for survival.
  • Supply and Demand determines the markets[4].
So yes Global Warming does affect us in StLouis even though we were not directly in the Last Path of the extreme weather patterns caused by Global Warming from the burning of Fossil Fuels that create CO2[6] see IPCC 5th assessment report[7].
One of several reasons why the air around St. Louis is poor are the many coal-fueled power stations based on both the Missouri and the Mississippi Rivers. This one, the Labadie Power Plant, is on the Missouri, slap in the middle of an otherwise pristine view from Klondike Park, Defiance. Richard Keeling
Labadie Dirty Coal Plant Photo by:Richard Keeling
the Show-Me State, year-over-year emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from power plants rose 3 percent. Leading the way was Missouri's largest coal-burning power plant, Ameren Missouri’s 2,400-megawatt Labadie power station.

Labadie plant among top emitters of greenhouse gases-StLouis Post Dispatch

It is going to hit us where it will hurt us Humans the most [in a struggling economy] in our bank accounts when we go to the grocery store.
Lucky for us there are things we can do to lessen the effects of the Extreme Weather that is causing Global Warming and the damage from Climate Change.

Yes StLouis can make a difference in Humanity's Greatest Challenge.
Simple acts of reducing the energy needed for your home does make a difference because less energy needed is less Dirty Coal that is burned to create the electricity StLouis Needs.  This means that the 4th most polluting coal plant in the USA[8] that is located just a measly 45 minutes to the west of StLouis will need to burn less coal which is the biggest form of CO2 emissions[9].  Here are just 4 simple acts that have the biggest influence in reducing Climate Change caused by Global Warming:
  • So the little act of changing a light bulb to a new style that uses less energy can help as well as turning off unused gadgets- 10% reduction of coal burnt electricity.
  • Beefing Up {staying on the Ranch Theme} the insulation in your home or office will mean less electricity is needed-Weatherizing your home has additional benefits as well-15-30% reduction of coal burnt electricity.
  • Installing a clean energy solar system will also dramatically reduce the CO2 Pollution-greatest savings for bank account and reduced CO2 emissions 90-100% of reduction of coal burnt electricity.
I realize that #2 and #3 have sizeable investment hurdles.  Luckily we have a local program in StLouis to help with making Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, and Clean Energy Resources possible for our Area.  This is not your normal go to the bank for a loan financing.  It is better!  This program, Set the PACE StLouis[11] is geared to help local people do their part to reduce climate change and save money.  Its a match made in heaven and just what the doctor ordered.
This program will not only:
  • Save you money on Reducing the energy needs for your Building.
  • It will improve the Value of your Property
  • You will have MORE money- because the Loan Payment Charges are lower than the price you were paying for the energy.
If you could do all those things and reduce the Dirty Coal that produces the most CO2 Pollution from being burned what is not to like about such a program?  When more people are joining in and making a difference we will be meeting and mitigating the Humanity's Greatest Challenge
