A musing about Roy Blunt

Once upon a time
Republicans had no doubt

They said a person's character
Was what it's all about
Character used to matter
If a man was true to his wife
How seriously he took his vows
Was reflected in his whole life
But now they sing a new tune
Character matters not at all
Integrity's not an issue
In the elections held this Fall
And to lie about another
Used to be a serious sin
But apparently it's now okay
If you call your lies "spin"
Now my GOP friends
Tell me with a nod and wink
Blunt has "maybe" seen the light
And have used a lot of ink
To say the way to change DC
Is to send someone who's been
There for the past fourteen years
And much to my chagrin
They say if elected
Robin will start to be
The kind of person Blunt was
While living in DC
And my GOP friends say
Miraculously Blunt will also change
Into something he never was
I find their thinking kind of strange.
Pardon if I'm skeptical
'Cause I think Blunt is only saying
What he thinks he must
So the tax-payers keep on paying
For Blunt to keep on doing
What he's always done
Saying whatever to get elected
Then back to having his fun
But does anyone really think
Blunt's top priority is now our Nation
Rather than to serve the ones
Who give him a donation?
