With the election over, Congress now has just a few weeks to tackle any unfinished business before adjourning for the year. Can you urge your Senators to extend time-sensitive renewable energy legislation as part of this last hurrah for 2010?
If we're going to keep solar growing and creating jobs right now when our nation needs it most, the single greatest federal policy priority is an extension of the 1603 Treasury Grant Program that's set to expire next month.
The program made the federal renewable incentive useful again. And in doing so it has made solar a bright spot in our nation's economy. It has supported 20,000 solar jobs. It has driven hundreds of megawatts of solar development. It has unlocked billions of dollars in private investment in solar, wind and other renewables. And without action from Congress, it will sunset at the end of 2010.
With the tax equity market still reeling from the Wall Street collapse, the end of the Treasury Grant Program puts continued renewable development and job creation at risk. Help us urge the Senate to keep this clean energy driver in place by extending it through 2012.
** PPS: Speaking of renewable financing, did you know that Vote Solar is funded by charitable donations from solar supporters like you? Please consider investing in our continued success in making solar a mainstream energy resource by donating here.
